Practice plans on YouTube

The following should give your son some ideas when it comes to individual workouts, during the offseason:
YouTube

The best 10 year old in America: Now I dont know if this young man is the "best 10 year old in America," but what I did like was some of the ballhandling drills that he did.  If someone was to do these drills 5 days a week...they would be come better and more confident dribbling the basketball.

How to be a great scorer like Chauncey Billups and Derek Rose: This clip doesnt break down drills, but it does provide repetitive clips of each player making a "scoring" move.  My suggestion for your son would be to watch the clip, and figure out the drill that he could do that would create the repetition that might allow him to be successful with the move. (As we tell the guys all the time, if they are repeating moves at less than "game speed," it will not help him in a competitive situation.  Furthermore, every thing that they are doing should be done to prepare them for the MOST DIFFICULT SITUATION THEY WILL BE IN...best defender guarding them, difficult point in the game, ability to make a move, while fatigued)

Steve Nash, 20 minute workout: Two words: STEVE NASH. This literally is a 20 minute workout...the clock is on the screen.  If a player would do this, everyday (twenty minutes), at the speed he does it, improvement will follow.  This could be done in the first twenty minutes of open gym, before we pick teams.  This could be done at the park, 24 Hour Fitness, Club Sport, driveway...you name it.  The key will be the discipline with which it is executed. I love the quote that is written on the screen before the workout is shown...(give or take a word) "If every player worked as hard as I did, I would be out of a job." Steve Nash

Hop Step Series Jump Shot Drill: I really like the drills and the footwork associated with them...however, have your son pay close attention to the effort that the demonstrator gives while retrieving the ball, while throwing the ball out to be caught, and when he receives the ball...once your son understands the footwork, he will need to work like the clip above this...remember those two words: STEVE NASH

Kevin Sutton: He is a coach. Type in his name and see what comes up. There wasnt any one clip that I believed was better than another, I just really liked how he instructed. His words will help your son improve...if he gives FULL EFFORT while working out.

Florian Schneider: This kid is a 21 year old European...nothing "really" special with the workout...I just was impressed with the attention to a lot of different aspects that are a part of individual improvement. And it makes me think about the quote that there are other individuals that are working out on a daily basis, what is going to happen when you (your son) meets up with one of these players? A player that gives MAXIMUM EFFORT and is able to improve, incrementally...be a little better today than we were yesterday...will be just fine when that moment presents itself. I anticipate that many of you will enjoy the clips. Please share them with your athlete. Can also use it as an opportunity to share with them the importance of discipline, effort and consistency.
